18th ROLAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH, ARMENIA

We are excited to announce that the 18th "Rolan" International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Armenia will be held 25.07.22- 29.07.22 in Yerevan and 3 regions of Armenia (Shirak (Gyumri), Gegharkunik (Gavar), Tavush (Ijevan, Dilijan), Artsakh (Stepanakert), with the support of Embassy of France in Armenia, Russian Center of Science and Culture in Yerevan (“Russian House” in Yerevan), Goethe Center in Yerevan.

The goal of the festival is to create favourable conditions using the festival as a sustainable and reliable platform for children, teenagers and youth with their active involvement and participation aiming to continue decentralization of the festival programs and events from Yerevan to the regions of Armenia and Artsakh.

Within the framework of the festival, film screenings, creative meetings, premieres, retrospective and special screenings are planned to be organized in Yerevan and the above mentioned regions of RA and Artsakh, maximally involving children and teenagers from various social layers (including children from orphanages, extremely deprived families, children with disabilities, etc.). Festival screenings will be organized in summer camps, regional public organizations, etc.

The festival program is expected to be interesting and informative.

This year, the festival program includes 75 films from 28 countries, including Best festival films for the period of 2004-2021 that participated in the competition of Rolan International Film Festival for Children and Youth.

Within the framework of the 18th Rolan IFF, feature films (long, short films), animation films (long, short films) from many countries are presented.

We express our gratitude to the long-term  Partners of “Rolan”  IFF in Yerevan and the regions of the RA: “TUMO” Center for Creative Technologies (Yerevan, Gyumri, Dilijan, Stepanakert), Creative Center for Youth (Yerevan), Tavush Diocese (Ijevan),  Russian Center for Science and Culture in Yerevan ( Yerevan, Gyumri) and Gavar Orphanage for successful cooperation.

All film screenings, creative meetings and other events will be held in the organizations mentioned above.

A Premiere screening of "Spread Your Wings" (dir. N. Vanier, France, 2019), the winner film of many international film festival awards (ECFA, Cinemania, etc.) will take place.

The festival program also includes the Oscar-winning film "Sing" (dir. C. Deak, Hungary, 2017), which received "Grand Prix" prize at "Rolan" IFF 2017.

A special program “Panorama of the best Armenian films for children and youth” (8 films) will take place in Yerevan and 3 regions of RA. The program includes the following films: "When I'm Sad" (dir. L. Altunyan, Armenia, France, 2021), "Olympicos" (dir. D. Sahakyants, H. Sahakyants. Armenia, 2021), "Vishapagorg. Dawn in the world of fairy tales” (dir. G. Martirosyan, Armenia, 2020), “Aniko” (dir. A. Harutyunyan, Armenia, 2019), “The Snow Maiden” (dir. A. Simonyan, Armenia, 2019), “Snow” (dir. A. Malakyan, Armenia, 2017), “Bojo” (dir. M. Vatinyan, Armenia, 2007), “The Shoemaker’s Son” (dir. R. Saakyants, Armenia, 2004).

The cooperation between “Rolan” IFF and Embassy of France in Armenia, which has already become traditional, continues this year.

The festival program includes the Best French films for children and youth: Feature, Animation (long, short). It includes 8 films.

One of the best feature films of the French program is “Little Spirou” (dir. N. Bari, 2017), which is a winner of many International film festival awards (GIFFONI, SCHLINGEL, etc.). The world famous actor Pierre Richard plays one of the main roles in the film.

The program also includes “Belle and Sebastian” (dir. N. Vanier, 2013), a winner film of Minneapolis Saint Paul, Seattle International Film Festival, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festivals.

This year, with the support of Goethe Center in Yerevan German feature and animation films (9 films) will be screened.

The program includes Long and Short (feature, animation) films: "Wendy", "Wendy 2" (dir. D. Seime, H. Alderdissen, 2017), "Sand" (dir. D. Kümmer, 2017). ), “Halim” (dir. V. Fidler, 2017), “Noe” (dir. K. Kaufman, 2017) and other winner films.

The traditional cooperation with the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Yerevan (“Russian House” in Yerevan) also continues. Within the framework of the 18th  “Rolan” IFF 19 animated and feature films will be presented, including animated films of “Soyuzmultfilm”, “M.I.R. Studio”, “Art Animation Studio” and “Melnitsa Studio”.

The program also includes a Retrospective of the Best Films of G. Bardin, the world-famous director, animator, winner of the Cannes “Palme d'Or”, “Nika” and a number of other prestigious awards (“Bolero”, 2017, “Listening to Beethoven”, 2016, “Three Melodies”, 2013, “The Ugly Duckling” 2010, “Adagio”, 2001, “Conflict”, 1983, “Flying Ship”, 1979).

In the frames of the festival, this year The Special Screening will include a collection of the best films of the famous humorous film magazine Yeralash,  dedicated to the memory of B. Grachevsky, the magazine’s artistic director, Honored Art Worker, winner of the “Golden Ostap” and “Golden Aries” awards, a dearest and faithful friend of the festival.

The opening of the 18th “Rolan” International Film Festival will take place 25.07.22, 18:30 at “TUMO” Center for Creative Technologies in Yerevan.

The program includes Screenings of the films "When I'm Sad" (dir. L. Altunyan, Armenia, France, 2021), "Bojo" (dir. M. Vatinyan, Armenia, 2007) and a creative meeting with the "When I’m sad" film crew.

All festival events are organized exceptionally on benevolent basis.
